Burning Leaves

Our house has two huge trees, so we spent many hours raking the leaves. Our town is small enough and remote enough that you are allowed to burn the leaves. This is not my first choice for green leave removal, but even if we would have hauled them off, the city would have just burnt them. The first day of raking and burning was magical. Alex loved jumping in the leaves and watching the fire. By day three or four, the magic had worn off.

We finally burned our last batch last week. They were really wet, so it took a lot of work to even get the fire started. It quickly went out, so Charlie came back into the house. About an hour later, our leaves were blazing again! This went on all night. Finally, he put the fire out with water. The next day, we noticed that all of the leaves were gone. We wondered if the fire had kept burning in the night. A few days later, we found out that our neighbor had finished them off for us. Yet again, God has blessed us with good neighbors.
